No room for gates to swing? A sliding gate runs sideways along the boundary instead, which makes it ideal for short driveways, drives that rise behind the gate, and busy entrances.

How they work
The gate runs on wheels along a track, driven by a motor and a toothed rack. A cantilever gate hangs on rollers to one side, with no track across the drive. Either way, you need a clear run beside the opening about as long as the gate.
What it costs
A complete sliding gate installation typically costs £4,000 – £10,000+, because of the track and groundwork. Motors for an existing sliding gate are priced after a free site survey. See sliding gate automation.
We fit CAME sliding gate motors, sized to the gate's weight and how often it's used.
Good fit, or not?
Sliding works well where the drive is short or sloping, the entrance is wide or busy, or you want strong security. It doesn't work without that clear run to the side. See sliding vs swing electric gates.
Sliding gate repairs
Jerking, stopping halfway or not moving? It's often the wheels, the rack, the track or a sensor. See common sliding gate problems and sliding gate safety checks.
Questions people ask me
How much space does a sliding gate need?
A clear run beside the opening roughly as long as the gate.
Can my sliding gate be automated?
Usually, if it runs freely on a level track.
Are sliding gates secure?
Very – the gearbox holds them shut and there are no hinges to attack.
